It’s that time again to answer the call for entries for the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center event The Illustrated Accordion. This year I started out with a little treasure I found at a local antique mall, a typewriter ribbon tin. I wanted to create something appropriate in it, so I turned to two of my favorite sources: old New York Times articles and ephemeral films and music on Internet Archive.
I pieced together a funny little story, using cream colored rice paper, cardboard and glue. It’s called Mayor No Match for Girl Typist. 2.5 x 2.5 x .625″
The story is about the 1941 National Business and Professional Women’s Week in New York City, where Mayor LaGuardia challenges the acclaimed, Miss Hamma to a typing duel. Miss Hamma showed her speed and proficiency at 165 words per minute, the mayor having to relinquish his machine. The evening ended with dinner at Lundy’s Shore Dinner Pavilion in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn.
Wow! Top work Patricia. Love it.
Where are you finding the time? This looks amazing. I always think about what to do with tin boxes I come across. I save them and there the sit. Love the story, too, and the tie in with the typewriter ribbon. I hope you win a great big prize for this one.
Love, love, love it! I want one 🙂
Thank you all, that is really nice to hear.
Beautifully done and wish your creativity could rub off on me = Cheers!
