This year I broke my arm at my niece’s wedding at the end of October. Jake and I were not sure that we would even make a card. As we thought about a design we decided that cutting and printing rubber blocks would be the easiest and fastest way to get them done. As Jake sat thinking of what he would do, I decided that I would just make a broken arm to decorate the envelopes. Jake came up with a pictogram puzzle for the cover of the card “A Toast”, I was trying to think of the text we would put inside. In my head I kept hearing a song, something like “A Toast, wishamastrocious”.

“What the heck is that?” you say. Well, frankly, I did not even know what the heck I was thinking of, I only knew that it was stuck in my head like that, and once I thought of it, I knew I had to find out what the heck it was.

While we were making the cards, we also had our iPad and phone with us searching and watching videos where some crazy song like that might be. We watched clips from Cinderella, Mary Poppins, the Mouseketeer Club, Alice in Wonderland… we found nothing. Jake started to think I was crazy. So I called Megan and Damian, because they have great memories for music, my sister, Rosena, because I thought maybe it was something we listened to during her childhood (we played endless children’s albums on my little record player) and my sister-in-law, Hanna, for her Disney expertise. Megan and Damian recognized the “tune” when I sang it to them. Megan dismissed Disney for Dr. Seuss. She said check out the Grinch. I did, to no avail.

We finished printing all the fronts and envelopes… Jake was done. He went and took a nap on the couch. I, on the otherhand, could not let this song go. I knew that I knew it from somewhere. So I got on my computer and went to YouTube and did a search for Dr. Seuss cartoons. Lo and behold “The Sneetches” animation came up. Could this be it? Yes, yes, it was. I was so excited. I woke Jake up from his nap feeling all proud of myself for being such a persistent researcher.

I have to admit, that I had no idea what wishamastrocious was supposed to be, that was how my brain scrambled the words together. The real words were “raise your marshmallow stick”. Well, after a good laugh, that was it. That was going to be our holiday greeting for this year.

Have you seen the video? It’s wonderful. A beautiful story about acceptance. I love it. So here is the initial song for your pleasure. Enjoy and happy holidays.
