my granddaughter came to visit over thanksgiving and we went to greenville, sc to check out the museum there. they had a great collection of jasper johns work, which was so inspiring. we shopped at a little store that had old photos, slides, match books, and a lot of different ephemera. of course i made a collection of nine photographs, she collected 30 slides.
using some new watercolor sheets i did the usual, scan, print and paint. view the series called southern exposure.

after i was done, i was putting the photos away and found in my collection this high school yearbook image of benito a. stewart. i felt i had to paint him too, even though he’s not part of the series.
since i had information about him, i looked him up on myheritage.com, he came from puerto rico with his family and lived in brooklyn, ny. his year book info said he had 100% attendance, was in the GO, was a banking rep, in junior band, and was a “spanish representative”.
